Would you prefer it if all the players to walked to the fans at home & away and applaud the fans whatever the performance of the players and reaction of the fans? From the players (team) point of view are fans from a 'psychological point of view' less likely to have a go at players if they did this & so better for the players?
The pyramid to beat all pyramids!! Find out what team is in which division, eg which division is Coppull United in? |

Assuming they are not too tense, perhaps they should applaud the fans before the kick-off rather than after the final whistle. Jules always used the acknowledge the fans pre-match - not sure if Wayne does likewise. Trouble is that at some away matches, visiting fans are remote from the pitch. At Newcastle, the players would need binoculars to see the away support

At least all/most of the supporters will be in the ground and in their seats concentrating on events on the field of play so will notice the players applauding. At the end of the game, many could have left the ground besides when the final whistle goes supporters head for the exits and probably don't notice the players applauding.Furthermore following a defeat all the players wish to do is to disappear down that tunnel.

Yes, I like that idea of applauding fans before the match. I'm sure they can fit it in after they have lined and before the whistle goes although its difficult to the opposite half to where you are kicking off from. I was only thinking of after the match as there has been some booing and having a go at players.

Sam might do the cause - and himself - a favour at away matches if he joined the players and applauded the fans - whether before or after the match (or both). Pulis and Pardew would have been too aloof to do this, but Warnock made a practice of it. Although things didn't work out for him, he recognised the importance of some sort of gesture of appreciation for the support. Fans like to know that the players and managers care. Klopp seems to have the right idea. Edited by merganser (12 Feb 2017 5.08pm)
