All of our midfielders now sit too deep. Benteke has no chance when he is chasing around on his own up front and it is not his fault. All SA has done in my opinion is to invite teams to attack us and our only hope is that we don't let them break us down. We have made totally toothless teams look like Barca this year, it really is appalling. Remy must replace Punch and start alongside Benteke and if Schlupp is fit then he needs to play in front of PVA and Tomkins should play right back with Dann and Sakho in the middle. Luka and McArthur for me in centre and Wilf might need a rest so start with Townsend on the right. We must score goals if we are to stay up and the only way we will do that is by attacking as a team. It might sound stupid but I would rather have lost 3-2 yesterday than 1-0 because at least we would have then shown some attacking intent.

Doesn't do a lot of chasing around for me.
I saw Niasse for Hull yesterday and his workrate put Benteke to shame.

To be fair though Willo, there wasn't a 20 yard gap between Hull's midfield and Niasse. I agree Benteke can be lazy but you can't flick the ball onto no-one or be expected to hold up play for 10 seconds until someone finally realises we are supposed to be attacking.

Perhaps Sam needs to go up into the stands to see what the pattern of play actually looks like. An isolated striker with no one to get the second ball from knockdowns and no outlet when he does manage to hold the ball up. That effectively restricts us to volleys and headers from free-kicks, corners and the odd occasion we manage to get a cross in. There's very little for him to run onto through the middle at all.

We need to play two upfront and four at the back and vary the delivery from the midfield so that we balance wing-play with attacks through the middle. We also, understandably I suppose, seem fixated on defending when what we actually need to do is balance attack and defence. We can't get three points without scoring, and we won't do that with the whole team bar one almost permanently camped in our own half.

Sam will have forgotten more about managing a football team than I'll ever know, but where we're currently falling down now does seem obvious, well to me at least.

If you look at the Stoke goal, Allen was in acres of space, nobody tracked him at all and there was 3 v 3 at the back !

I see that Cluttenf*ck admitted making a mistake yesterday. It was good for us, but I thought he was infallible?

Those 'acres of space' were created by Ward being further up the field than the rest of the defence, pulling the two CBs and the LB to the right, allowing Allen a free run in the area the LB should have been in. That's about discipline more than anything.

You often get full-backs being much further forward than the defence but someone has to fill-in that space when they do vacate their defensive duties.Sadly nobody did so and we were left terribly exposed.Discipline and organisation.
