From what I can find, only Ward gave an interview after the game yesterday. Ward at least has the balls to come out but where is our captain? Do you think that Jedinak would have shied away from giving an interview after a humiliating defeat? Even if injured, Jedinak would have come out after that defeat, it might only be a tokenistic gesture but it shows at least a bit of character. Dann has not been a good enough captain, when he has given interviews after a loss he sounds beaten, maybe it's just the scouse accent but it doesn't fill me with confidence when we do hear from him on the rare occasion so I can't imagine the players feeling much better about it.

I like that word you used - tokenistic. Edited by Mo Sizlak (05 Feb 2017 2.36pm)

Need to replace Dann with another captain. Great defender (and a nice guy by all accounts), but burdened by the role I think, and that's diminished his performance. No obvious alternative though - I'd probably have gone with damo but he doesn't have long enough left.

Again I'm not too sure that Ward is a leader either but at least he has shown the right attitude while at the club, gave an interview after the game and always last off the pitch.

Some teams manage it such as Southampton who named a 'club' captain and separate 'team' captain when Fonte left last month. It's not an unusual thing to do elsewhere. Not sure who I'd pick unless Luka proves to be as good here as he was at Olympiacos.
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

Give it to the biggest toughest we have.....Sakho or Jimmy Mac. Wardie does bark nearly loud enough!

I would give it to this guy, shows a lot of passion, emotion and always has a smile on his face around the park. Recognises what it means to the fans. Edited by VKR1888 (06 Feb 2017 9.36am)

A captain is a leader by example, we don't have anyone in our squad that's fits that requirement.

Dann is no captain and no leader. Give it to McArthur imo

No way a new guy can come in and be made captain but here's hoping that Milivojevic and Sakho can be galvanising characters. Flamini is a strong character that is not getting enough game time. Would it be ridiculous to suggest Ward as the captain going forward; he's a senior player now, 5th season at the club, always last off the pitch. His form hasn't been great and was particularly poor in possession on Saturday but he might just rise to the occasion better than Dann, Ward at least showed his face after the defeat. If we're to continue with 3 at the back, we could even put Ward in that RCB spot, Tomkins was poor there and has been a disappointing signing overall. Could put either Tomkins, Kelly or McArthur at RWB.
