I posted yesterday that my main emotion at final whistle yesterday was one of sadness. It good to read similar sentiments expressed on this thread after some of the - understandable - fury and abuse expressed by many yesterday. We can only hope that somehow the manager and players can recover, reform and bounce back from his low point.

None of this can hurt like it did when I was a little boy and Malcolm Allison was manager. He promised to take us out of Division 2 and he was true to his word - he took us straight into Division 3! Babs and Clean Willie were in love they said....

I know that I am stating the obvious but please indulge me as it makes me feel better just get my thoughts written down after yesterday. There is a definitive pattern to our football set up. The top six are financially untouchable and will always be the only real contestants for the title. Last year was a wonderful one-off by Leicester but even they lost one of their best players to Chelsea even after being crowned champions. The remaining teams, with the possible exception of Everton, alternate with differing time spans between the Premier and the Championship. I believe that every other team's pattern is very similar to us. We get promoted with a group of players with great commitment and team spirit to which is added a couple of very talented youngsters. This carries us forward for a while and we then supplement the squad with more talented players. Here is the key differential, teams outside of the so called elite six will only attract players that are not wanted by the top six. Players with the top six will always have that extra drive and mental toughness to perform as they will always be competing for the title. Sadly not all new signings of the remaining clubs possess that extra commitment as I guess achieving a mid table status is not enough incentive for them. Sadly this is compounded by the big clubs taking the younger talent away, as I believe will be the case for Wilf. However, I am slowly recovering from yesterday and like many of you have experienced many ups and downs since my first game in the Third Division South. I know we always bounce back and I am still proud to be a true Palace supporter and have no time for supporters of the bigger clubs who have no real connection to their 'adopted' team. Looking forwards to the next time we dent the hopes of one of the primadonna teams as per the attached link. I am sure most of you have seen this but it has cheered me up today!
