The whole housing problem, along with reducing the national deficit, could be sorted out simply. Close the cash cow that is the NHS. Millions of people will die, the Gov will save a shedload of cash, and properties will become vacant. Added bonus, wages increase. Systematically dragged down by the lawmakers

The bad news is that it won't stop the population from increasing for about another 200 years. In this time, the world population will get as high as 20 billion. If we don't insulate ourselves from that impending disaster we are totally screwed. We live on an island. That is an advantage that we have to exploit.
