Always been a huge critic of the man but credit where credit is due.

Deserves its own thread as it wasn't spotted by the commentators.

What a save tipping Wilshire's free kick on the post. As important as a goal. Also thought he looked calm and composed with the three in front of him.

Maybe with Big Sam he will continue to instil that confidence in his defence.

He had a big game at Everton as well but when we lose it's easy to forget the Keepers performance.

I have never wanted Speroni dropped but even if he was the best keeper at the club when Pardew dropped him a season and a half ago, he definitely cannot be anymore.

Imagine a Speroni 2 years older and less confident in his starting spot and I think it would spell disaster.

With the money the board have put into this transfer window I think I agree with them that even if we need it, spending even more money on a keeper would be madness when we have signed Mandanda in the summer.

There's backing Sam out new manager and then there's just burning money. I feel like Parish has backed him but has said no more waste, make do with Wales' best keeper, Frances' second best and Argentina's second best.

Hard to disagree with that line of thought really.

Other than the West Ham match, he's generally improved this season compared with last year.

I was listening to the BBC Radio coverage on the train home from work and they did comment on it.

He can be a great keeper but also mentioned by the commentators was that prior to that he was completely out of position in no mans land and got away with it as Delaney put in a great header. That's his downfall, he is great one minute but doesn't seem able to concentrate for a whole game. Very Carlo Nashesque!

He still worries me but he has improved recently and made some great saves.

Agreed. Solid performance and a confidence enhancing clean sheet.

Even if Sam can just organise the defence so that we keep it tight in the dying minutes we will be safe. By my reckoning we've thrown away 7 points from goals conceded in the 87th minute and beyond.

Nice to see a smile on Sam's face too. Hope he's got his mojo back.

Making 'great saves' isn't the be-all and end-all in the locker of a good keeper. His communication with the defence is still suspect, as is his overall command of his area.

We can do a lot better. He won't be with us next season.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

You may well be right - he's out of contract at the end of the season (I think) and no sign of any further offer from the club.

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five!
