Apparently when filming "Captain Corelli's Mandolin", Nicholas Cage used to arrive from his hotel in a blacked out limo. John Hurt used to arrive on bicycle.
We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell] |

I heard Sigourney in interview talking about the Alien scene. The reason it was so good was that none of the cast, except John Hurt knew what was going to happen. It was the "first take" that made the film, as they were genuinely shocked. Brilliant directing, and only one of the cast acting. Genius. He'll always be a bender for playing Quentin Crisp though.

Maybe only in your dreams, Tim! For the rest of us, a consummate actor of epic, versatile and courageously principled proportions

When I told my daughter Erin, a dedicated Whovian, about JH's death she was heartbroken. After seeing him play the War Doctor, she watched some of his earlier work, including V for Vendetta and Alien, and absolutely fell in love with his work. He was what an actor should be, take on all kinds of roles and play them magnificently. I wish more American actors had his versatility. Edited by kenbarr (05 Feb 2017 1.41am)
