Thanks for a great article. What I remember particularly about Alan Woan was his bustling power on muddy pitches and tremendous shot. He was the strong blunt foil up front to enable his strike partner, the outstanding Johnny Byrne to excel. The 60/61 season team was one of the best I have watched at Selhurst Park. It was a well balanced team with experienced players who could pass a ball. It had great wingers who could score goals, a fine goalkeeper in Vic Rouse, a brave full back in Bert Howe whilst Terry Long and Roy Summerby had great energy. When you remember we scored 110 goals that season you'll understand that the White Horse Terraces were a great place to be on a Saturday afternoon. And at half time peanuts were only a "tanner" a bag! I am sure Alan will be pleased to know that even though it was 55 years ago when I saw him ply his trade he is still fondly remembered for the stint he put in wearing a Palace shirt. All the best Alan, you could show one or two of our boys today how to shoot and keep things simple at the right time.

Thanks for that information. A few years ago I posted on here my recollection of Gerry Priestley scoring direct from a corner against Aldershot, and asked whether anyone else could recall that. Apparently nobody did. That match was just seven days before the Northampton match referred to earlier. That was obviously a purple patch for Gerry!
