It could get bigger if Lyon qualify into the Champions League, but at that point, having all those millions coming in, they couldn't really care if they pay a little extra for Depay. Edited by mattteo (19 Jan 2017 4.17pm)

16-21m pounds which I think is around 18-24m euros so quite a bit more than the 10-15 euros you mentioned. Truth is Lyon won't qualify for the champs league...at least I highly doubt it. So it's likely to stay around 18-20m euros. What's obvious these past two transfer windows is that the big clubs are less likely to take a loss on their bench players. Certainly Man United. I was actually surprised how much they held out for with the MS deal to Everton. They have barely lost anything in that deal...Depay is another example of them not wanting to lose much and I would imagine that if a prem club had wanted him then the price to get him would have been higher than the fee Lyon were told to pay. So difficult for clubs in our position. On one hand you have the fans who are aware of the TV money coming into the club and demanding big signings and then you have clubs charging way over the top prices for average players and the club gets criticised for paying over the odds...which they have to do because of the TV money.

Edited by mattteo (19 Jan 2017 4.17pm) You have to look at the acquisition as more than just the initial fee. The transfer fee is not usually the problem morelike the commitment of high wages over a 3-4 year period. There was no way Palace were interested, it's at unrealistic suggestion especially as we're in a relegation battle.

Why? Lyon is not as financially powerful as Palace. I think we've accounted for a couple of high earners on the books. We would need to get rid of a couple of people or a high earner before we could consider another one to meet with the stipulations of FFP. Depay might have gone for that fee, but you need to consider the total package. Also need to think consider the type of character you're bringing into a relegation battle. You don't just buy a player because you can afford him, they're are plenty of other factors!

Depay, hmm? This thread has all the hallmarks of a thread headed: "let's make a cheeky bid for Ronaldo". Is there anything linking him with us? This about sums it up. 5 pages of total nonsense. This is never going to happen.
