Actually we hold the record for the most penalties ever awarded in a match and I was there Crystal Palace vs. Brighton & Hove Albion, 27 March 1989 : Referee Kelvin Morton awards five penalties in just 27 minutes during the Crystal Palace versus Brighton & Hove Albion match. Crystal Palace miss three of their four penalties, while Brighton and Hove Albion score from their only penalty. Palace eventually won the match 2-1 I still have no idea why the weed were awarded one. It's on youtube somewhere, I've watched it loads and can't see a foul or anything.

The Palace defender tried to hold back the Brighton player by putting his arm across his neck - not that it seemed to impede the attacking player.

John Pemberton's nearly cleared the Holmesdale. An honourable tradition nowadays carried on by Messrs. Puncheon and Benteke. We also of course do the Feeble Punt and the Straight At The Keeper. Not so good at the No Messing About kind. Edited by chateauferret (02 Jan 2017 9.44pm)

Edited by chateauferret (02 Jan 2017 9.44pm) We need another Alfie Noakes, I'm sure the goalies were petrified when he started his ten yard run up and smashed the ball as hard as he could, don't rememmber him missing one.

I just watched it again. No arm across his neck. No holding back. No impeding. No penalty. Even the commentators questioned it. It was a while ago, so you can't apply today's rules. It was a soft penalty. Back then, they got away with kicking lumps out of each other frequently.

I remember Alfie Noakes missing one - his shot hit the crossbar and almost broke it. Can't remember the opponents - might have been Millwall. Ronnie Allen was a good penalty-taker.
