Meth, takes its name from methamphetamine, which is one of the three major amphetamines (levo, and dexamphetamine being the other two). Most speed is the UK is a methamphetamine sulphate powder, cut with dextrose powder. The only real difference between US crank / meth and UK speed, is the purity (largely down the availability of crystal meth in the US which is basically very pure shards of methamphetamine that can be smoked (in the UK production is either of sulphate via base, or crystal that is powdered and cut). The price of speed in the UK is ridiculously cheap compared to the US.
