We need a defensive midfielder. How about Essien at least till the end of the season? We can swap between him and Flamini who are both quality players with experience in the Premier League..

Or play both if we're really up against it. Plus I'd imagine he can fill in at the back if we continue being unlucky with injuries. Could be a good signing although wages might be an issue? Also how old is he? will he hold his value? Morgan Schedlin might be better long term value, and might have better legs on him to work along side Flamini. Edited by Goldfiinger (28 Dec 2016 3.07am) If Allardyce can get Flamini fit we already have a good DM on our books, so we might be better off targeting a LB (Gibbs according to other rumours) and another CB givene the injury proneness of Tompkins, plus with the small change (!) an attacking midfielder such as Gabbiadini
