The problem is, is that when you stutter like that it's then difficult to a) get any power on the penalty and b) it's easy for the goalkeeper to read your body language.

Either change the taker or get Benteke to change his style.

Its a classic dilemma, the stutter gives you an idea of which way the keeper will go, but it also makes it easier for a keeper to tell which way you'll go. And Gomes is an excellent penalty saver (at around 33%), he moves first.

Problem of course with lashing it, is that you're more likely to miss (ala West Ham) or hit the post (or simply go down the middle - probably your best bet as you never see a keeper standing still). Of course if you lash them all down the middle, they will.

But you always, have to try to get it towards the posts.... not just to the keepers left or right....

Anyone but Benteke. He will only score 50% of pens at best the way he takes them. If the keeper guesses right he saves it.
I think Puncheons bottles gone following the Spurs pen. Cabaye also seems to have lost it although as someone has pointed out his stats are reasonable. I would prefer Cabaye over Benteke any day.
They will all be practicing them in training judging by the look on Sam's face when he missed it.

Yes and his name is Glen Murray! His penalty v. QPR just now was a model of how it should be done, the keeper didn't move.

His penalty against Millwall for us, could have taken out the corner flag.

I think that Beneteke will be practicing penalties this week, with Cabaye and Puncheon. It was a bad penalty, but not his worst this season.

AJ's shields the ball away from the defender so the defender has to get it right and under pressure.

Converted the penalties seldom failed.

Also Jedi a good penalty taker why not try to get him back.

Can do you a turn in defence with the palace long injury list.

The style of penalty that Benteke used only works if the goalie moves well before the ball is kicked. Then the kicker just rolls it the other way.If the goalie doesn't move the kicker is f''@@ed.Benteke used this method recently (after blasting the previous one into orbit) so it was obviously time for a change.Personally I don't like the piss take penalties,I prefer a well struck penalty to either side and no stuttering run up.

I don't have stats to hand but I bet a lot more of those go in than any of the so-called "clever" ones. And if you try olne of those and f*** it up you don't half look a p***.
