Nice to see Pardew gone from your club. Having lived in the Newcastle area briefly, I can see exactly why he was hated up there. And now you've got Big Sam.

As a Gooner, you can imagine I did enjoy what happened to him with England (That said, he was far and away the best English option), but there is zero way you'll be relegated under him. Tight, defensive football, but he'll set you up well. Unlike Pardew's horrible organisation of the defence, expect clean sheets. Your players are far better than you rate them.

In fact, you've got the perfect Sam team. Two pacy wingers, big target man up front, a sort of attacking but a c*** in midfield in Cabaye (when he can be bothered, mind) and this is something he's been planning towards, so there's that.

Congrats, you're safe from relegation. The only important decision the board will have to make is the right time to get rid of him three to four years down the line when the club is stable and growing. That said, this is the first real time he's got a perfect project on his hands, a club that isn't settled in the PL and fans who don't think themselves above a bit of defending. He might actually evolve with this team, who knows?

Fun fact: Big Sam's dossier that got him the job is what Pardew himself did to Hughton up at Newcastle. Karma exists.

Hi mate and merry xmas to you!
I'm very happy with sams appointment! Our board have yet again done the right thing. Even the appointment of Pardew worked well for us for a year and led us to our highest finishing position in the premier league. for that I am thankful. Leading us to a cup final was also an achievement but I think the way we lost it in the end showed poor management. We don't expect huge things here at palace (well the true fans of us don't, if you read through this board you may think we all believe we should be top four) but most of us know where we stand. It is still an achievement to us to be in the prem in my opinion. Sam will achieve that and hopefully we will build on that. Good luck for the season (apart from New Year's Day) ! P.S my grandad bless his souls supported arsenal grew up in Finsbury Park. For that I have a little soft spot. Was a great man. Anyway merry xmas

Thanks for the encouragement.

I like Gooners, I've converted most of my family from Arsenal to Palace over the past few years. Not hard given the atmosphere and passion.

I think Sam is like Wenger - a safe option - which we need right now. Not gonna turn up any trees. No new tricks. Not gonna surprise anyone with results. Not gonna change the way he does things. It will be dull, but he'll get the job done. For Sam, the job is being a few points clear of relegation. For Wenger, the job is a few points short of a trophy, but at least both sides will be safe.

I actually wouldn't mind Arsenal winning the league as it would please some of my Uncles. However, I cannot stand listening to Wenger. He makes Andy Murray sound interesting. I have a rule in my house that you can tell me what he said but you cannot play the voice of Arsene Wenger on the telly - a lot like Jerry Adams in the media during the 1980s.

Good luck with your season, but may your start to 2017 be a setback!

The passion of your fans is second to none. I've got a few Palace supporting friends, and have been to your stadium a lot more than the Emirates when I was last in the city (Financial reasons and you tend to hang with your mates when Arsenal wasn't on, or an affordable home/away :P )
