Super Al came back to join the Crystal Palace journey
He made us smile and made us cheer, our Eric and our Ernie
Brightly shone the Palace team who found the points a plenty
And talk of Europe for the boys was surely elementary

Then a cup run gathered pace and got us all excited
But could we win the cup this year or would we still be blighted?
Then we scored and dared believe that we might lift the trophy
But 2 late goals put paid to that and things looked less than rosy

The cup run had been really good but less so was our league form
We struggled to get vital points and we were barely lukewarm
So we slipped down place by place and close to relegation
A 1-0 win at Norwich proved to be a late salvation

So another season starts and we’re still in the top flight
We buy and sell and pray the deals will take us to a new height
But despite the goals we score we just concede too many
And join the relegation zone that’s not so complimentary

Super Al had tried to play some more expansive football
But inconsistency prevailed and sometimes we were woeful
So a change was on the cards and as it was reported
Big Fat Sam took on the job; let’s hope he gets it sorted!
