I suspect that not many will share my sympathy for Craig Pawson. Pilloried for not dealing appropriately with that foul on Zaha last Wednesday, he reacts by over-compensating in his next match. I haven't actually seen Vardy's foul, but from what I have heard and read, Mark Hughes is the only person in the country who thinks the ref got it right. All the same, I think we should remember that, like the players, the refs are doing their best, and, also like the players, they will suffer if they keep under-performing. And I think Webb and Poll are out of order in going public with their criticism. According to MailOnline, Webb has said that Pawson shouldn't ref the upcoming Liverpool/Manchester City game, while Poll is quoted as saying that "Pawson should consider whether he is in the right frame of mind." That's all really going to help him get back on track - I don't think.

My mate is a GFA ref and attended a dinner over the weekend where some senior officials were sat on his table. They were astounded that Pawson got another Prem game this weekend after his display at Palace last Wednesday.

The officials your mate was with felt that "after his display at Palace last Wednesday" - that is, on the basis of one awful game - Pawson should have been dropped. I was just saying that players have awful games (don't we know it?), but we don't expect them automatically and immediately to get the chop. But if players or referees continue to underperform, then they deserve to go.

From what my mate was hearing they had been keeping an eye on Pawson (and Moss apparently) as their performances have been below par on a regular basis.

Extra security needed at the Pawsons Arms after last week
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

Would Mr Webb and Mr Poll be happy to provide comment to under fire referees while games are being played - fifth (unofficial) official?

Vardys like rojos, was a definite red. He has only made one mistake their in my mind so don't get the criticism he got for sending off vardy.
