I do feel we would be a stronger team with 2 more dynamic full backs. Whilst Kelly had a much better game going forward today, I thought Wardy was clueless going forward and slowed things down.

Pap added that at left back.

Fryers - just me, or does that guy look ridiculously short of fitness?

Townsend is fast becoming a player us fans couldn't care for. Get a whiff of the prima donna about him. Let Zaha keep developing out on the right, and get another tricky left winger in the Jan window.

Ward is out of position so slows it down because he is getting the ball on to his right foot.

As mentioned earlier we simply need a left back.

This situation regarding points is the reason I was so angry at Pardew not prepping the team in the off-season for the WBA match and next 'easier' matches: there are no less points for beating lesser teams. Now we're paying the price for it.

Sooner or later, as always, one, two or all of the bottom three will make changes and launch themselves up the ladder, leaving spots for new contenders, and we look like one of those.

But, MUCH BETTER THIS WEEK. We defended adequately for 90+ minutes and if sh1t-4-brains can focus the lads on maintaining that level of defending, we will go up the table, because we can score goals.

Missed Bolasie this week but I'm not blaming anyone for that. Pardew has managed to get the worst out of Townsend though.

Well done - I guess.

Whilst we didn't take a pasting today, let's not forget Sunderland lost 1-0 at home to Chelski on Weds under similar circumstances. This game would only be a possible real season changer if we had won, next against Watford is a different matter.

The same thing was said about Swansea and then Hull. We had to beat the teams below us but then *SURPRISE* there aren't any teams below us anymore!!! Watford will want to beat us.

Much as the first half today was decent the second half was absolute rubbish.

Some of the play around the back was a joke, Hennessey's pass to Ledley ? Delaney getting boxed into a corner ? Ward's three yard free kick in the second half ? Not one decent attempt on goal apart from Cabaye's right at the start. Crap dead balls and set pieces ?

Credit to Chelsea for shutting the game down when they weren't at their best but lack of fight and spirit and quality at dead balls was really poor IMO.

Today wasn't a glorious defeat by any stretch.

Change of leadership needed now.

Never got Zaha into the game in the second half, Puncheon kept coming inside from the left which left the right-footer Ward to try and whip crosses in from the left flank.

That said we were never out of the game and this week against two top sides we have only lost to both by a single goal, which is much better than many had expected.

We've lost by a single goal to West Brom, Spurs, West Ham, Burnley, Man City, Swansea, Man United and Chelsea so far this season. It doesn't matter the standard of opposition, we nearly always manage to achieve that single goal defeat.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...
