A Tory MP spoke for an hour and 20 minutes in the House of Commons on Friday in a (failed) attempt to block a bill on violence against women. According to the Huff Post he has form on blocking legislation by successfully filibustering. He used this tactic to block debates on rogue landlords evicting tenants asking for basic repairs, one to regulate payday lenders and a third to force councils to provide support to those who care for the disabled.

Isn't the bill referred to the Istanbul Convention ("Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence"? I think he's quite right to oppose it. The fact he is in a minority of virtually one is depressing. The road to hell is often paved with good intentions. Some insights into the problems with the convention can be found here:
