You would have thought Wilf would have waited till GS confirmed in the job before committing to the IC. Maybe he was waiting for a hint via AP - that didn't arrive?

To be fair to Southgate, he wouldn't have wanted to make any big changes to team before he got the job. If he plays him and Wilf has a shocker then the press would have destroyed him. If he picks him for the bench and he doesn't play then they would have said why take him or 'waste' a bench position on a Palace player. I think Wilf should have waited till he was appointed and had a chat. Something like 'Ivory Coast are asking me to play for them during he ACON. What are my chances with England?'
