However, managers are not there to stand on the training pitch and coach the players, they are there to pick the side, develop how the side plays, and manage the infrastructure, their back room staff are the ones who carry out the will of the manager. There is no need for them to be marathon runners.

However to be a coach you do need to be fit, who's going to have respect for a coach who gets out of breath ordering a fry up ?
