Would have loved to have seen Gayle and Benteke together. I agree, that pair upfront in a 4-4-2 would've been UNSTOPPABLE.

I agree, that pair upfront in a 4-4-2 would've been UNSTOPPABLE. The problem with 4-4-2 is that, whilst the majority of opponents remain wedded to some form of five-man midfield, there is a risk of being dominated in the centre of the park, with service to the front-runners being stifled.
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

Assuming Newcastle get promoted it will be interesting to see which strikers they buy in the respective summer transfer window, that will tell its own story as to how much Rafa really thinks DG will cut it / how Rafa thinks he needs to set his team up in the prem.

Gayle will always score goals in the right system and I wish we still had him.

Which is why I think in the modern game, the second striker ideally can also play in midfield so you can switch between 4-4-2 and 4-5-1. Pardew tried this with Bolasie. We've tried it with Gayle on the wing but he was shocking at tracking back or being effective in the build up.This season we've sort of tried it with McArthur but we miss him in the middle of the park.
