I thought this was interesting, given the current calls from some of the fans.
If you come to a fork in the road, take it. |

what about managers who are tactically predictable, reluctant to listen to evidence, often naive, who go on long stretches of poor performances, and who like to diss their own players in interviews ? would the Roman Republic have kept Caligula hoping for an improvement to the situation ?

Probability of 6 league wins in 2016 if we are lucky is clear relegation form.AP has had virtually 2 years in charge to turn things around and while can point to bad luck, injuries and poor refereeing cannot avoid that in a results driven business, has failed to deliver.

The point I was making by posting the link is that managers have to be given time. Not that they should never be fired. People have been calling for Pardew's head since he joined: he clearly was not popular with some. Other have been calling for it since January. During the summer most people seemed to say, let's given him the summer window and then we can reassess at Christmas. That seemed reasonable then, and unless the team stop playing for him, I would say that is still the case. I noted in the report that almost none of all of the teams who regularly fire managers are in a better place (indeed many were worse off), whereas those who back them are doing no worse, and in many cases better.

The FA Cup masked an appalling league run which, is the most important. The current published stats don't lie and he is showing no signs whatsoever of sorting out the horrendous defensive errors that are costing us valuable points. This is firmly his problem. Don't know why the board are waiting but given their incredible patience during the last awful run when most Chairmen would have dispensed of his services. A very very lucky man.

I actually don't remember many asking for him to be sacked straight away but I suppose that is largely besides the point. I don't think the vast vast majority are calling for a current Charlton-style approach where managers are let go every 10 games. And I think most would be willing for a manager to build a dynasty. But the decision over whether the let a manager go has to be made on objective assessment of his performance. And I fail to see how anyone can say Pardew's performance over the last 11 month period has been anything other than very poor. There are mitigating circumstances, there have been individual rather than collective errors, and there has been bad luck. Which is why you don't judge over a short period. But over the last 30 games he has been the worst manager in the country in terms of results. And that is despite the largest outlay on players in our club's history (yes admittedly with a relatively small *net* spend). The club Pardew has assembled should be challenging for the top half of the table. After 12 games we are 1 point clear of relegation. That - objectively - isn't good enough.

We judge Managers by results and form? On current form we are the worst team in the PL having lost 5 games on the trot. We have not kept a clean sheet for 17 games in the PL. We have only won 5 PL games throughout the whole of 2016. I think Pardew has been given a fair crack of the whip. He has been allowed to bring in the players he wanted to play in the style he prefers. I think he will be allowed to continue until the New Year (after the Arsenal game). If we are in the relegation zone then he will probably be sacked. I doubt that Parrish has anyone lined up and will take months to replace him leaving Millen in charge again.
