For me I think it could be to do with the fact that we're mainly
Making up numbers in the PL, meaning that we don't get much media attention compared to the big clubs.

"We love you Palace, we f@cking hate Man U, We love you Palace, we hate the brighton too, We love you Palace we play in red 'n' blue, so f@ck you, and you ...

Boredom ? - an experience totally alien to true Palace supporters ! We've never had it so good as now and I include the team of the 80's and Coppell's team. Then we had no chance to progress but with the money available now we can keep moving forward but there is no point in trying to rush progress now when we are in the top flight.
Last season's early run and Pardew's talk of Champions League were too premature and just created the disappointment when things unravelled. The truth is we were not ready to march up the league then and we still aren't now. Yes we have invested what for us is massive money but we still don't have the all round strength to change our style to a more attacking system AND be successful - for that to happen we need another 5 players of the class required.
If we try to go toe to toe with City we will leak goals and just like against Liverpool we will only score due to their defensive mistakes. Pardew needs to be more pragmatic and look at each game realistically - play a system tailored for each game - and for this week that means going back to counter attack. As for it being boring how can you say that when you are going to watch one of the best teams in the world or would you prefer to be playing Rotherham ?

Great post, I totally agree.

In the Championship, you ALWAYS had the belief that if we got a decent manager a few good players on form and some luck, then we could go up or be in the playoffs.

Likewise relegation was always in the shadows but something we avoided and probably mostly believed we would avoid. So the next good thing was attainable and the next bad thing (excluding the outright destruction of the club -- which was totally different and very unifying) seemed less probable.

Now we are in a division where we have to sprint to be average. And it is amazing to see some of the talent that we play but also that plays against us. But, for me, the top teams have now stretched further ahead of mid table teams this year. There will be upsets -- we may even spring a few. But gravity wants to pull us down, not up.

So the next good thing just looks that little bit less attainable than maybe it did when we were in the championship. But the next bad thing looks very attainable with just a pinch of bad luck and mismanagement.

And lastly, Pards is such a streaky manager so when we're on bad streaks it feels a little tough. Hopefully one day he'll figure out how to eradicate the bad ones and only have good uns.

PS: Bit lazy and judgmental to say what 'true' Palace fans would feel. I've been to well over 400 games down the years and Palace is just a huge part of my life. Just because I'm naturally objective, doesn't make me not a real fan.

I'll take the latter.

How about play good attacking football stay up.
Play boring defensive football stay up.
Long term the better football teams win things.

We are all totally saturated with football.
Most nights of the week there is game on, at weekends you could be sat on the sofa watching football from dawn 'till dusk.
We see all the best teams, all the best players, playing super football, but it is total overkill.
We watch all these world class players, and those of us who actually go out to watch our own team start to expect too much, start to draw comparisons. We grumble when our team can't always hit that killer pass or hit row z instead of hitting the back of the net.We have great expectations.
We're having too much of a good thing and because there is so much of it, for some of us (not me) football is becoming repetitive and boring.
The only cure would be a long break, say no football for a year then we'd all be ravenous, our appetites refreshed.
I remember when i were a lad we had a proper close season and the only match live on TV was the FA cup final .And when the new season was approaching the excitement was immense.

This, I think, is the crux of the matter - too much football, too readily available. I try to stay clear of it if I can but we are flooded with it and nearly all of them are matches I couldn't give a monkey's about. Why should I be that interested in watching teams other than Palace?

When I consider how much negativity there is on a lot of the threads, I think your post is spot on BRM. I am not bored with Palace and regardless of the poor run of results we've had recently I don't believe that will change for me because Palace is my football release, not CL or other EPL teams or the national side. I agree that a poor run of results (note I don't think we've actually been playing that badly so I won't say bad "form" can be a bit depressing and we haven't caused an upset for a while but then the definition of upset is going to depend on how high your expectations are to begin with. You might say I lack ambition about my club but I'm quite happy with Palace being a small, plucky club which punches above it's weight every so often and I still see us as that at the moment.

I remember leaving the ground after we'd just lost 0-3 to Forest in 2012 and going "WTF was that?"

The second half of that season we were truly awful winning only three league games after Christmas. Now that was a boring season (in terms of football!). We limped over the line and played some of the worst football I've ever seen with some of the worst players.

Since we've been back in the PL we've been slowly improving the squad and now we're trying to move beyond the smash and grab style that has sustained us. I want to watch us play attractive football against the best teams. I don't want to watch us scrap it out in the Championship and back in administration. I still think AP is the man to take us forward and a few good results will get us back on track. I don't think it will start today though
