Making tackles doesn't necessarily mean a good defensive team, our organization at the back is pants.

Making tackles isn't the sign of a good defence. Not making tackles (i.e. winning one on ones in the air, interceptions and closing down play tend to be more important.

Jedi as a defensive midfielder was an immense tackler (one of the best in Europe) but the arrival of Cabaye and our best period, when Cabaye replaced Jedi, the midfield tackles dropped dramatically, but the interceptions rose proportionally.

A good defender only tackles when something has gone wrong or they've been outfoxed.

..yes, lots of tackles = lots of giving the ball away, some of them need to be very worried if they fail to pull their socks up before January.

..it does mean the opposite and the players responsible need to get a grip of themselves, Pardew can only tell them what to do, maybe Pardew misses the Pulis/Pearson stare of death to make them pay ferking attention to what is happening around them.

There you go , you just admitted AP lacks the authority to manage the players.

..players don't need to be told anything, they should understand that if they ferk it up they won't be playing for long and the stare of death inhibits attacking flare.

I wonder what our blocking stats are, it seems to me that maybe we're trying to tackle too often, sacrificing the team shape and organization.

The number of blocks made is not an indicator of how good a team is defensively. It is an indicator of how much pressure a team is under. The three teams currently occupying the bottom 3 are ranked as follows

Hull are ranked 2nd with 70 blocks
Swansea are ranked 4th with 50 blocks
Sunderland are ranked 7th with 48 blocks

Palace are ranked 15th with 32 blocks

Man C - 17 blocks
Liverpool - 18
Arsenal - 28
Chelsea - 30
