I hope im not repeating what might have been posted else where, but it has become 'crystal' clear to me that there are two levels or parts to the premier league.

All you do is rehash comments you made when we played under Pulis. We do try to play good football, and it did come off at times in the second half yesterday. Do you not remember some of our great passing and movement up at Everton? Our football against Stoke? All you do is try to undermine with negative posts, pre-prepared scripts all the time. This is the Premier League. We will sometimes come up against better teams, and Liverpool are a very good team. But this is still one of the best Palace teams in living memory

Bill is referring to the glass ceiling in the prem - there'as one for the top six, then Saints Leicester and Everton - we can't finish above them - West Ham will get their act together, so top half this season would be outstanding - that's why we should know our place and have realistic expectations. The Leicester miracle last year has skewed people's take on things - I never wildly expected it, but I remember Southampton in the early 80s being right up there consistently, a fortress that was the Dell and a good first XI luck with injuries and you don't have to be a giant to get top 4, QPR under Venables came third, so did we but that was more testament to how bad the top flight was back then - there's Forest and Villa as well, I know the financial spread has changed things, but Newcastle (under Pardew!) nearly got top four a couple of season's back - you must never write these things off - the team we have now is decent enough but there are deficiencies which I think are more to do with personnel than tactics, there I disagree with Bill, but a couple of key signings, one in defence and one behind the striker and we could be fighting for a top half position, Townsend, Zaha and Puncheon need someone better than Lee to make them fight for their places, and with a bit of luck with injuries and some momentum we may surpass our expectations - especially once Remy and Wickham return, then Suoare will come back, we should know our place and it may seem we have come as far as we can, but you have to progress or you will regress - we need the stadium to improve, we're a fair few years behind the likes of Southampton and West Ham, we should be happy where we are all things considered but that doesn't man being totally satisfied with 12th - 17th place or watching our players under-perform. We want to be aiming for Europe two or three years hence.

I agree, when you look at the league table, i would say only two clubs are above us that shouldn't be, realistically we were never going to win, it's the manner of defeat that could strike a chord with some people. Originally posted by ex hibitionist

"Knowing our place" sounds like showing too much respect and is one of the reasons we got stuffed yesterday. "Yes, surr. No, surr. Will you have yourr goal noww, surr?"
