World Cup: Fifa president Gianni Infantino wants 48-team tournament - A 1st round knock-out to knock out 16 teams held in the host country, then the same as it is now with 32 teams in groups.

Daft. No chance I'm making the trip to a World Cup to see 90 minutes, I want at least 3 games before we inevitably get knocked out thanks.

Absolute joke. Qualifying for the finals should be tough , not easy. Qualification for Euro 2016 was a farce really , as was some teams finishing 3rd in their group entering the knockout stages. Everything is about the dough. F''king annoying !

If we upped it to 48 teams, would Qatar still be able to host it ? if not then i am all for it. Infantino's vision would mean 16 teams getting a bye into the group stage and the other 32 playoff for the other 16 spots. So how would you determine the byes ? top 16 ranked teams according to FIFA ? we already know these rankings are a joke, and you would then stand a chance of one or more continents not being represented in the last 32. No, 32 teams is just right.

But if your in Europe, and seeded, its an achievement not to get to the world cup.

No, 32 teams is just right. No, the proposal would take effect in 2026. It might mean At least one team for Oceania, probably New Zealand would qualify outright without having to play off to get . Presently, Europe has the most slots with the fewest matches required to qualify. I would like to see Europe godown to 10 and reallocate those three slots and keeping the tournament at 32. After all, it's the World Cup, not the European Invitational.
