If it were not for Palace I would have no interest in football. It's a stinking greedy cesspit of players management agents and owners - nothing new of course, been going on since footballs inception (not just 92 when SKY invented football, lol). Palace have had their fair share of $hit I gave up on England in 2010 after yet another innept gutless showing. It's all mostly just $hit. Mildly heartened by leicesters (never to be repeated) feats last season, but even they are owned by Thais that are not in it for the glory. I can still have a decent footy convo with fans of champ and lower clubs as they still get it, but the prem, money has changed PALACE and the fans attitude too. What are the chances that Blizter and co bail if we cannot get stadium sorted? Reckon the Prem money bubble will have burst by the time anything happens with stadium. If we do then we will prob end up as a soulless Arsenal /Reading hybrid in a nice new/rebuilt (probably half full) library. Hate football, love Palace.

Cheer up Captain Bringdown! This is one of the most exciting periods for the club and supporters for a long time. By all means be negative when there's something to worry about, but getting depressed about things that haven't, and are unlikely to, happen is a waste of energy. Have a bit of faith in the current owners; they haven't let us down yet
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

I am aware that we are in possibly our best period as a club , and I am proud as punch about that, we appear to be run sensibly and could be in a better position than most to ride the money storm that will inevitably blow some(possibly bigger than ours) houses down.

I would agree that money bags clubs have dominated football and their is an elitism that is found in football that ruins it. Ruins it in sense that they win everything and nobody else can challenge them. Accept when someone does challenge them like Leicester. Or when the invincibles are no longer invincible, or Spain get knocked out of the finals, or when we come back against Liverpool. Surely there have always been the big clubs and there have always been the underdogs and on the pitch it is just as exciting as it has always been whether it is Palace or anyone else. Although it is clearly far greater whenever Palace take be field for me. I think football clubs hage been ruined and often by fans over expectations of what is and what should be.
So I manage a Workshop which provides a safe learning environment for blokes struggling with PTSD and other mental health issues. Being a Palace fan isn't listed yet. |

Definitely more fun it was back in the 70's and 80's even if a lot more dangerous. The spontaneity has gone. Mobbing up with other 14 year olds, all four of us, paying at the gate, being able to move around, reasonably priced tickets, not knowing the attendance until later (could be anything between 5,000 and 45,000 between 1975-85).

I wouldn't watch too much football were I not a Palace fan.

Can understand the OP's points but think we're far from being one of the big boys with a huge stadium but no atmosphere (quite the opposite in fact !). Also agree about the Championship, away days much more fun down there mostly against teams with supporters very much like ours, not expecting too much. It's great to see how far we've come and it's still exciting stuff, let's hope we never become a team who take it for granted and see success as a right (Clownton anyone ?) It's better to be where we are, but it does make you think of what the future may hold.

I was pleased to hear SP on Talksh*te the other week say, in relation to the ground, he'd like a 38-40,000 capacity but with no more than 7,000 'corporates' and a standing area (official or otherwise) to ensure that we keep our (almost) unique atmosphere. IF he succeeds & the team can establish itself in the EPL then we could end up nicking "Més Que Un Club" from that other lot in red & blue.
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

I can see where you are coming from and have similar feelings in many ways. At times the whole professional football edifice can seem like some pit full of greedy corrupt individuals, clubs and organisations wallowing in a cesspit of money where morals and ethical behaviour are not on their radar. The trouble is if you give up on football for those reasons you pretty well have to give up on much else in the public arena as football is just showing the symptoms of a general malaise in the way a lot of business appears to be conducted ( there are obviously exceptions - hopefully more than there appear to be).
