Jmac will need to be rotated as well despite being this seasons shoe-in MVP in my opinion but I will bet Cabaye is in for the big games if we have no injuries.I am going to go against the grain with regard to today as I think we need to upgrade Puncheon. He does a job and he didn't paly bad today but he simply isn't explosive enough for me his brain doesn't quite work quickly enough to create the danger we need as a wannabe Top 10 PL team.I am sure we will be going after a specialist No. 10 in January and that may help Punch anyway with some proper competition. He really does need to get his head up quicker and improve his speed of thought as there is nothing wrong with his range of passing.

I agree totally - Puncheon needs to be the understudy of an equally talented but more reliable number 10, and we were a bit too loose and hurried in possession too often - it's not a complaint, but Cabaye coming back in will help us to keep possession better - great result and performance but Stoke gave us two goals in a scrappy first half, but we looked really good last half hour - Townsend will hopefully improve Wilf's game, and Benteke is showing Wickham the meaning of work rate - once we get better and more regular service to him he will be an absolute beast - the best striker we've ever had imho. Stoke's performance today was the probably the worst I've seen at Selhurst from a top flight side in over 43 years of watching Palace. Crowd was tops too.

We had a couple of 'mad moments' but we absolutely bossed that game. By the time they scored we were really just running out the time trying to avoid injuries. If we wanted to, we could have won that five or six nil. Stoke have some real problems, but they weren't rubbish, they lacked focus. No where near the cohesion they've had in previous seasons. Mark Hughes first for the sack. They were fkn awful bud. I honestly doubt we'll face opposition as bad as that again in the next two seasons.

Great to get some momentum over a number of games since the second half against Bournemouth. Haven't seen that for such a long while. Expect a few changes mid week but hope to see another strong performance next weekend. COYP !! I believe the momentum started at Spurs, despite the loss!

Mmm. I'm not quite sure what to make of that game. I came away not feeling quite so elated as I would normally after seeing Palace win 4-1. Perhaps that last second goal by Stoke took the edge off it, but, perhaps more so, the fact that there was some periods in the game when we were very poor - particularly after going 2-0 up. We should have bossed the game then but instead all the old Palace frailties began to appear.. some sloppy defending, poor passing, lack of movement off the ball. The two goals in the second half added a bit of gloss, but overall it was a great result but not a great performance. I don't know what game you were watching but every Palace player was closing down, covering, doubling up and pressing from Benteke to the defence. There were some mistakes and some one or two late on from Kelly who otherwise had a great game. Defenders were pressing forward with the attacks. Wilf legs grew to the point where he couldn't t fail to take the ball off someone toe, but then he made excellent decisions with the ball. Midfield were excellent. This was the performance we have been waiting for. We were not lucky today, accept for their finishing.

Went to the game yesterday, and what a game it was. i was very impressed with our ball retention, as we played some very attractive keep ball and we had an end product aswell. Jimmy Mac and Townsend were absolutely excellent going forward. but we also defended as a unit. we seemed to have the correct balance from start to finish and it was such a joy to watch. its early days but if we can continue to play as 1, a mid table finish would be a great season. would really like us to play the way we did today just to see if we can compete with the bigger teams in terms of football and possession. great game and great atmosphere at the PALACE

Yep, Macca & Townsend were stars of the show but it was the best 'team' performance I've seen in quite a while. I don't think any player could be genuinely criticised although there was a bloke near us who was bemoaning the lack of goals from Benteke. Personally I thought he led the line well. Great holding & link-up play & he seemed to terrify their back four with two men on him for most of the game. That had a huge impact on the amount of space we had to work in & I think gave Macca the impetus to get forward a bit more. Stoke did look shocking when defending set pieces but that may be a direct result of the rule 'changes' that mean they can't cuddle their opponents every time without punishment. Ref had words with a couple at our first corner but after that we seemed to have the run on them most of the time.
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

As good as we were, some of that has to be down to just how bad Stoke were. I'm looking forward to seeing us play like we did against a stronger team.
