Zaha was on £30k plus at united and when we signed him probably offered him similar, if not slightly more to sign for us. If he wasn't offered as much it is unlikely he would sign. Players like Adebayor were paid by former club's because the buying club could not affording such a high salary - so to get him out the selling club agreed to make up the shortfall (Man city to Spurs move). Spurs effectively released him so the player, as is his right, insisted he still be paid as per his contract until it expired. Players rarely take less money - the main occasion is when they are out of contract as suddenly a 50k a week contract is zero so they may take a 20k a week contract. The other is if the new club offers less, but a longer contract - i think that's what we negotiated with Dann when he first signed.
