I would argue that CW is half the reason we always complain about the bad service to him. He wins about half as many aerials as Benteke does and lost possession quite often. He was getting better but not even close to as good as a holdup striker as Benteke. I would be banging my head on how many headers he missed while watching him and how many times he got tackled with the ball at his feet and back to the opposition's goal. It will come good this year. Our service was as good as any other teams last year but just had no finish on it. Check out this little spreadsheet I made comparing crossing accuracy during last year's season. I think that the excitement about the deliveries from Wilf and Andros are a little premature. Wilf had a great game on the weekend, gift wrapped and handed to him by George Friend, and we know what AT is capable of. However, there have been games where previously CW has struggled for service and it could be the same for Benteke if we don't have multiple plans and multiple teams who can work together for results. Some players will know that they are going to be a sub (Ledley / Chungy / Flamini) and that if they come on it is because they will be playing plan B or C or whatever. One team with one plan of get it to Big Ben will not work all season!

I like the set-up now. Benteke is head-it first, whereas Wickham would rather shoot. The CBs are trying to stay very tight to Benteke, which means the wingers are more likely facing one v one situations and have more time before getting double-teamed. Zaha and Bolasie had very similar games, I think the mix with Zaha and Townsend is looking better. Zaha will still punish with tricks and speed (though now he is finally stopping to pop an early cross in now and then!), AT likes to cut inside and look for a shot or short pass. It seems likely AT will soon get his first goal from a cutback from Benteke, who draws a lot of attention. As far as Plan B, I hope AP is working on a 2 striker system that has Wickham and Benteke working together instead of putting Wickham on the wing, which won't work. They need to figure out a way to make that work, because we'll be doing that when we are chasing the game. I liked Kelly's game, but if he doesn't keep impressing, I think we may see Ward at LB, and Tomkins or Flamini in at RB. Though Fryers looked good in preseason, so him starting isn't as terrifying as it would have seemed last year. Overall, despite the injuries I like our depth a lot better (Little Ben notwithstanding) Bringing Campbell, Sako or Mutch on to try to save a game was just depressing. The average fan knows naff all about such subjects.........How insulting to even ask such a question. What happened to loyalty? We have a very good manager....and so many good managers have to put up with this kind of stupidity. Come on Palace!

Last week Pardew said that he doesn't currently know the best team and he will need to fit the pieces together.

Isee Fryers is on the bench. Also Dreher, is he good ? I don't know much About him. Yes he does as does everyone else. We only have about 12 fit possible first team players atm. The only players to come back into ghe first team are Cabye and Souare and then Tomkins. Or do you disagree and think he's missing someone out?

I would suggest that the same applies to Benteke if better opposition is cutting out the crosses we put in. Friend was awful on Saturday and Wilf took advantage. We won't get such treatment from better clubs.

Pardew's best team is Reading.
Bit unfair.

"Does Pardew know his best team" is an interesting thread title as judging by the posts in the weekly "team for xxxxx" threads where everyone gives a different answer it seems that no-one knows our best team although many think that they do
