How does that move make perfect sense? If I was a British footballer of 19 years old, I wouldn't have moved to that team, because I don't know anything about them, and I doubt whether he does.

He will be back in Britain within 2 year's and apart from the obvious (money) I cannot see the benefit of this move.

He would have got his move, if he had bided his time and held fire. Peer pressure on a young lad, yet again for their own personal gain.

So by not staying and signing for a Premiership club the guy is accused of chasing money?

Sounds like he's signed for potentially a future top German side. Red bull bought the team a few years back and every year they've been promoted. Now there in the top division and like previous years are going to want to make an impact. Looks like a great project...

Think we'll be hearing more of this team in the following years and possibly also of Burke who now luckily plays for them.

Sounds far better project than wasting away in Chesleas reserves...

Actually here is a very good article on the team. Apparently not very well liked by all accounts.

Interesting choice of move.

Our U18 player Mandela Egbo joined Borussia Mönchengladbach last year, apparently to improve his chances of first team football and make himself a better player. I haven’t heard anything about him since, but the stats here [Link] are quite interesting.

According to this his market value when he left us was £340K and now it is half that. Now 19, he plays in Mönchengladbach’s second team. He took part in three of their first five matches, but was subbed off in a couple of them. Yesterday he was only on the bench.

I don’t know how well this reflects his progress, but I wonder if he still feels the move was a good one for him.

So that means any player moving to a German team is destroying his career? Becuase one player didn't make it in to the first team?

Nonsense

Would've liked to have signed Burke but this is a great opportunity for the lad.
All the best.

Disappointed, as thought would have been a great signing for us, but good luck to the lad. More british youngsters should broaden their horizons and play abroad. Hope it works out for him.

Where have I said that? Merely illustrating that it might not always be the Promised Land that young players who choose to go there are expecting. The Bundesliga is a strong league, but I’m sure anyone with the ability and application to succeed would do well.

Sorry Pigglet it just sounded as if you were using your example as a reason why it wouldn't work out for Burke. At least that's how I read it, not sure how else I was meant to.

But anyway I would agree the talent should rise to the top which ever league.

But personally I'd say he's got a little more chance playing for a team without a bloated reserve team say as Chelsea in the premiership. Where no matter the talent it might just be a case of being loaned out and reserve team football and not being able to break through. So by staying away from a mega club like Chelsea and City hes most likely actually got more chances.

Would rather have seen him here tho!!

Anyway good luck to him.

Oh that's OK. Maybe I should have made my meaning a bit clearer. Yes, it's a shame we didn't make a move for Burke earlier before all the fuss about him, but he may well have turned us down anyway.
