You can be banned, with a Test Pass requirement or extended Test Passed. This is generally reserved for incidents of dangerous driving, but can be applicable to any dangerous driving offence (including penalty points accumilated).

The Test Pass, requires that the individual pass their driving test again. The extended test pass requires additional testing beyond that of the normal test. Its most common where new drivers have accumulated 6 points within two years.

Or if you're a multiple offender, caught driving without a current licence, or significantly over the legal limit.
