I think its more about 'respect' and the example it gives kids...fewer refs are joining up as a result; so if this behaviour continues it'll end up affecting the grass roots game.

It's one of the big issues in the game and I'm glad that they are tackling it. Let's see if they actually use the rule though before we judge - I suspect not much will change since its the big clubs that are the main offenders. Would still like to see retrospective action on diving and when a player goes down "injured" they are required to spend a few minutes off the pitch if they need treatment - the walking off the pitch thing is absolute nonsense and just wastes more time.

Agreed. I also think the whole thing about retrospective action on players who have been spotted by the ref ought to have been done. If a player goes in aggressively with an elbow and only gets a yellow, I think the FA should still be able to convert it to a red card/ban retrospectively (although that barely helps the team that the incident happened in - perhaps ban the player for the reverse fixture and make the opposition play with 10 men from the next kick off....not being serious of course).

Diving - definitely. I almost endorse players diving these days BECAUSE there isn't sufficient recourse. When everyone else in the league is diving you are at a disadvantage if you don't dive. Take away that advantage and rescue football a bit.

Its a start isn't it...I agree with the comments about retrospective action as well as trying to emulate the level of behaviour exemplified by the egg chasers.

I'd also like to see a clampdown on diving as well at some point...but its a start...so lets be happy with this.

Now lets see if it actually comes to fruition....

We had an incident like this where Refs were "reminded" that abusive behaviour could result in a yellow or red card for the offending player! The instuction just so happened that our Owen Garvan was sent off against Sheff Utd (2010)when Anthony Taylor gave Utd a penalty for a foul at which Owen argued(that Clyne had won the ball and not touched the opposition player) with the Ref who yellow carded him twice in the space of a couple of minutes for swearing.Fast forward a few months and just to take one player as an example. I could've picked Jack Wilshire who has also sworn several times at the Ref without punishment,but let's say Rooney. Swore 26 times in 1 game! Then swore down the Sky cameras during a live match!I known he got a retrospective ban for that but,again, it's that word '(in)consistency'! Ollie's Dad,Ash.
