...are any of you able to tell me the purpose of these vest-like pieces of equipment, as seen in the photo below, that footballers are often seen wearing during training? Attachment: Liverpool-Training-Session.jpg (263.60Kb)

I may be wrong but I believe they are fitted with sensor to measure the players heart rates' distance covered etc etc.

I was wondering about that myself after viewing several Facebook/Periscope videos of Palace training today at Paul Brown Stadium. I thought they may be a way to identify either offensive or defensive players during intra-squad scrimmages, but the sensor explanation seems to make sense. Edited by cincybarge (16 Jul 2016 8.34am)

Seems a bit of overkill doesn't it? They always look to be excruciatingly tight.

I think they are just fancy heart rate monitors, designed not to fall off. And to keep man-boobs in place.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

I believe there is a little monitor in the back that links to a program that is available to the coaches. Players' movement and heartrates monitored to measure overall performance.

It's a posture aid. They also take elocution lessons and learn how to put a doily under a tray of cucumber sandwiches.

They're GPS devices and they track everything. Distance covered, speeds, workloads etc. In rugby they can also measure G forces on the body amongst other things.
