The goal against Leeds will be one of the memories that will stay with me.I was on the Holmesdale behind Sprake, funny how seeing the label "shovel" to this day can only mean one player. Not the most flattering of nicknames but it was meant affectionately.Reminds me of standing on the Holmesdale and having different groups of friends who I could find easily by where they stood. And walking back to the "Duke" (of York) in Canterbury road for darts, via the betting shop to check how the horses got on.

Thanks. It's good to see that again. I was in the far end of the Arthur Wait at the time.

OK in 1970 I was only 10, I only ever remember sitting on the mound ( when I first watched palace) or going into the Holmesdale end, (never the Whitehorse end) I don't know maybe age is getting to me.

You may well be right , (& thanks) but I am definitely having trouble remembering it that way & for sure there wasn't another goal like it that I could be confusing it with - for some reason that escapes me I must have been in the Whitehorse end that day .

It was indeed at the Whitehorse. Was the "Arfur" covered then? Cant remember but sure there was no seats.

It was at the Holmesdale end. On that film clip it's to the left of the cameras which were on the gantry under the Arthur Wait stand, where they still are today. Sadly that film doesn't show the best moment of it - an incandescent Jack Charlton on his knees thumping the turf with his fist.

The Arthur definetely had a roof on then, used to stand on the halfway line level with the roof supports, but I can't remember when the rear seating section was installed.I seem to remember taking my daughter to her first game around 1973 and sitting at the back of the Arthur, but could well be wrong.
