It's a good appointment, it is telling the world that we aren't world class so we don't need a world class manager (tried this numerous times and failed).

What can go wrong, aside from not qualifying for Russia? Everyone wants us to boycott WC2018 anyway.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

This is an awful appointment, I mean Woy has a better managerial record that the fat controller.

Look at West Ham, they got rid of him because they believed he could not take them anywhere. Look at the money they have given to Bilic rather than him. And look where West Ham finished up - alot higher than lardy arse could manage.

What are England looking at here, merely survival within the competitions, ie. giving ourselves just a chance of qualifying ?

Lets hope that Palace have a good season because you will be wasting your time with teh national team.

West Ham remind me of Everton a few years ago. They replaced a solid Moyes with a fresh-faced Martinez. Worked for a season, didn't it? He wasn't as solid as Moyes, though. Remains to be seen with Allardyce but he's never really failed, more that he hasn't had wild success anywhere either.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

It looks to me as though the F.A have realised English players aren't good enough technically/mentally and they've gone out and got a manager who, rather than play attractive football will set us up to be hard to beat in a tournament.

We were happy enough when Tony Pulis turned us from losers into a hard to beat team that didn't play particularly attractive football

Of course, but we were a minnow, trying to survive in a shark tank. The national team is intended to be capable of winning an international tournament - so the analogy is a completely false one.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

From the Guardian's "Fiver" email:

Quote

As clubs around Europe rev up for the start of a new season, and football watchers far and wide slowly recover from the epic giggle fit triggered by England’s performance against Iceland, it looks clear Mr Roy’s greatest achievement to his homeland during his time as the Three Lions’ ringleader was to shock and appal FA wonks so badly that they finally agreed to embrace Big Sam Allardyce.

For years the FA shunned Allardyce as if employing him would be an act of embarrassing uncouthness on a par with ordering bubble and squeak at a Uefa gala. The man’s lack of silverware could be tolerated, but his reluctance to brown-nose was a concern. Not any more, though, thanks to the sheer comprehensiveness of Mr Roy’s failure. After 46 years of hurt, it only took Mr Roy four unsuccessful years to wind the English football clock back to Year Zero.

Yep.

Good start seeing as we have only WON 6 knock out matches since 1966.

With the England vacancy now gone, perhaps AP will get his finger out and start giving 100% to Palace, rather than fantasizing.

I really dislike Fat Sam but it's good to see someone who is like a little kid left alone on a sweet shop at the prospect of being England Manager.

the dignified don't even enter in the game
