Man City & their stadium

I was watching the Man City game and I thought about how it looked when they had the Commonwealth Games in 2002. I mean, it looks like a football stadium not an athletics stadium.

I got thinking about it and decided to do some Googling because everyone seems to be pissed off with the deal West Ham have for moving in to the Olympic Park.

I know West Ham are getting a good deal but apparently Manchester City's ground is owned by the council and they paid for it to be converted from the Commonwealth Games stadium to a football stadium.

It cost £120m to build the stadium, £22m to convert the stadium for football, paid for by the council though the installation of bars, restaurants and corporate entertainment areas throughout the stadium was funded by the club costing £20 million.

From what I could find out Man City used to pay £1.5m a year rent but in 2011 they renewed their lease, increasing the rent to £3m a year but in exchange took over the naming rights. Man City pay the council £2m a year from their 10 year £350m deal with Etihad.

While I am not saying the West Ham deal isn't a con for tax payers, their owners only have a worth of about £80m from their soft p*** and dildo empire.

The Manchester City deal is the scandal of the century especially when you think the capacity is going to be increased for the 3rd time since 2003 at the tax payer's expense knowing full well when the lease comes up for renewal in a few years time that there is only one person who is interested.

What amazed me about Man City today was around 2/3 of the ground emptied by the final whistle before the team's lap of honour and Pellegrini's farewell speech

If I was a City fan and whatever my views I would still stay behind and applaud the team and manager

I was at the Etihad for a meeting last year and my understanding, from speaking to a member of staff, is that Man City actually pay as you said about £5m a year, but also pay all of the staff costs at the stadium. They also paid for the 3rd tier that was added and are going to add a 3rd tier at the opposite end of the ground.

He won 2 league cups and the league with City.

I think it's disgusting that loads left! I really hope they miss out on top 4 this season, even if it means United get it.

I agree with you 100%! Someone said about our game at Stoke that some people have different reasons for leaving before the final whistle or not staying for the lap of appreciation but not that many people!

In the cup final replay in 1990 my brother left with 5 minutes left. I was pretty pissed off but he said he wanted to beat the traffic (he drove from Essex).

Wild horses wouldn't have dragged me from Wembley that night to see my team collect their medals and do a lap.

Like you said, it is not much to do especially as it was the last game of the season and the manager's last game at home.

A plastic team begets plastic fans. I'm sure the faithful who were there in the third division have long since been pushed out.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

Read the book 'Richer than God' by David Conn.

Without the stadium deal, they wouldn't have been bought.

Exactly the same with West Ham. I'll be amazed if Sullivan and Gold aren't bought out within the next two years for a huge profit.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.
