Was always one of my favourite players, but went up even further in my estimation when he stuck one on Robbie Savage. He started walking even before the ref could get his card out.

Brilliant, have to say I don't remember this but link below for anyone else:

Excellent!

Surprised they let Chris Colemans brother ref the match though.

my favourite player in the past 20 years iv been supporting palace bar none, every time he had the ball you always new it was in safe hands, such a consistent performer, so calm on the ball and made everything look effortless and believe it or not id have him in my midfield right now over any of our current lot

James McArthur is the next best thing, although he doesn't have the quite the same "don't f**k with me or I will break your legs" aura.

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)

I've watched that film several times now, very special player/man for us, always felt confidence when he was on the pitch, good to see AJ.s comments about him too.

I remeber a very good headed goal he got against Norwich,it made the score 3-2 Other players rushed to congratulate him.He through them off and yelled at them to get ready for the restart he certanley had a menace about him.I used to work with a bloke who said he helped run a youth club in Belfast he said Huges turned up and proceded to nutmeg him during football matches.

Those words bring back to mind that night at Sunderland in 2004, when we won the play-off semi-final after a penalty shoot-out. I was listening on the radio and obviously a bag of nerves. As Hughes walked up to take the decisive kick, I can still remember the commentator saying, "If there's one player you would want to be taking this kick, it's Michael Hughes." The rest is history.

If Dowie had played him from the beginning of the 2004-2005 season we might have put more points on the board and stayed up.
He was great for us and I wish he was still involved with the Club today - his never say die attitude might rub off on some of the current crop!
