Secondly, as good as Ronnie is... scoring a 147 is a big deal and unlikely to be repeated in this tournament. My point was under normal circumstances the punter would have already won his bet but for Ronnie procrastinating about prize money. Lastly... I think Ronnie has been a marvellous ambassador for Snooker - as Stuk says, when he retires a lot of fans will probably go with him. First issue here is. You are a grown adult. Please do not use 'LOL'. Second issue - bang on. Ronnie is the only reason snooker is even being talked about. The man is a genius and can do whatever the fck he wants.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. |

As already said, the man brings character and colour to what is a dull sport. So what if he knows his worth? He's an entertainer, nothing wrong with that. Edited by madcap_v2 (18 Feb 2016 3.57pm)

if you read his full reasoning, it was more about him wanting to build the purse up to make it more exciting for the audience - to get a bit of chatter and anticipation going over a few competitions. In his words a 147 is a special thing and it has a value, greater than £10K. Similar thing to when the lottery rolls over for a few weeks and everyone gets excited about it. I'm sure he is a bit of an arrogant cnut, but I don't think that was the motivation behind choosing the pink.

Got to bring this thread back up, it's now in the wrong forum it would seem though, as the last few months I cannot believe how good his form is. I'd kind of stopped watching much snooker but saw Ronnie on a TV show last year, the week of the English Open, he was asked if he thought he would win and he kind of shrugged and said "yeah, probably". I kept an eye on it that week, watched his matches and he duly won. The next tournament he played, the Shanghai Masters in China, he also won. He had a blip at the Northern Ireland open by only make the last 32, then made the quarter final in the Scottish Open before returning to winning at the UK championship. Today he's wiped the floor with Marco Fu at the Masters, 6-0 in 80 minutes with 3 century breaks and said afterwards that he didn't feel well!

Was absolutely blinding in the UK, I caught the third of his centuries today on a break at work and it was incredible. Steve Davis said he ranks as one of the greatest and most watchable sportsmen on the planet and I can't disagree.

I'd been meaning to during the run he had late last year. They are both right in that there is no one who is so on top of their sport as he is, and he isn't lauded enough for his talent. I really hope he doesn't miss the world championships due to filming in Australia, but I'd understand if he did. If I were BetFred i'd be inclined to pay him as much to be there, as I would to sponsor the tournament in the first place.

Well, he won’t get another chance at a 147 now; dumped out 6-1 blaming illness. Hey ho.
