An interesting way of looking at it is this. We have three Premier League games and two FA Cup games in January. If we'd signed a top striker the day window opened for, say, 2 million more than he was worth (to tie up the deal quickly) it might be reasonable to assume that we'd get three extra points from those games (of course that's conjecture, but to make my point I have to do something) not to mention possibly another round in the Cup. Are those points worth .6 million each? Well, if at the end of the season they result in us finish two places higher in the table then we're in profit. Not starting an argument or anything. Just trying to give a framework for evaluating the sense in doing what Bournemouth have done. I think it probably is worth spending a little more to do your business earlier in the window. Others may disagree. I tend to agree, that was my point about getting them in early and playing. Grabban is a no brainer for me, the other two more risky but it's minimal when you look at the rewards.
I learnt these facts during Holloway's 'Scattergun' Period.
And it's not a very nice one.

Have to say if Palace spent 20m on those two, I wouldn't really be that impressed. Not convinced either will be a big hit in the premiership. May be proved wrong though, but seems a lot of money.

Others may disagree. Couldn't agree more. Except in a very few cases, we've always left our business til the end of the window. Get the impression that we're not the most generous of payers (nothing wrong in that) so it's difficult to get players over the line. Only problem is that other clubs snap up the better players.

I know someone involved in transfer activity at Bournemouth but he doesn't give anything away ! All he said to me the other day was that he was on his way to see an agent but didn't divulge any name ! And I've known him for over 30 years !
I am informed that I know someone who knows someone who's involved in transfer activity. Oh, it's Willo... He hasn't got anything to say but will still say it anyway Having perused this, "Pots and kettles" sprung immediately to mind.

I expect that Bournemouth conducted their transfer activity early in the window leaving them enough time to buy another if history repeats itself I have just been speaking to my friend at the club who is involved in transfer activity. He talked about the "Early Bird....." scenario and also commented about probably putting other clubs noses out of joint !

Bournemouth sold Grabban to Norwich for £3 Mill and have brought him back in a £7 Mill deal. I know someone involved in transfer activity at Bournemouth but he doesn't give anything away ! All he said to me the other day was that he was on his way to see an agent but didn't divulge any name ! And I've known him for over 30 years !
