During a recent visit to my parents, I was given an old programme of our Croydon schools cup final at SP back in 1974. The squad that beat West Thornton 7-2 that day was: Ward, Boxall, McCallin, Vierya, Ballard, Tolfrey, Winship, Wills, Stenning, Wiltshire, Sale, Courtney, Blezard, Slavin, Arnold, Irwin, Stawman, Colbran and Williams (that'll be me) What a cracking little side we were too. Our only blemish in league and cup was a 1-0 defeat in the Surrey schools final and I have to admit, we all balled our eyes out (we were only 10 or 11) Of the 91 goals scored showing in the programme I managed only 1 of them at LB. It was from the half way line although it wasn't exactly Charlie Adam or Beckamesque as it was a hoofed clearance that bounced over a three foot nothing keeper! Any of you still out there or anyone had a similar playing experience?

I've played a couple of times at SP. The first time was around 1978/9 when playing for Palace Guard Under 16's. We played against a strong Palace side which included most of the current first team and up and coming youngsters (Gilbert, Sansom, Nicholas etc.). I always remember running into Kenny Sansom who just stood there laughing as I bounced off ! There's no way the powers that be would allow that sort of game these days just in case someone got injured. My second game on the hallowed turf would have been the mid to late 80's, and involved about 20 of us having a pis5ed up kick about after a party in a house in Holmesdale Road. Happy days !

I think it is safe to say that trumps my day out. Still, great early memories for at least 2 of us.
