I don't think he would have played against us for QPR, certainly not in the league, as QPR went up the season we came down from Division 1 in 1973, and were relegated the year we went up to Division 1 in 1979.However, he did play 19 games for Forest in 79/80 but I don't know if he played against Palace.

He was lovely player to watch, but was in that group of "mavericks" who had great skills but were never much favoure or trusted by England managers - e.g. Tony Currie, Frank Worthington, Charlie George , Alan Hudson.

He was a brilliant player, I saw 4 or 5 QPR games in the 75/6 season when they finished second a point behind Liverpool.

I have a press photo of Bowles in a Carlisle shirt dated 1972 and on the back someone has written "on his way to Crystal Palace" and that's been crossed out and someone else has written "QPR". He joined Rangers in Sapt 1972.

If only.................

Quite simply the most talented and exciting player ( bar Hoddle) I saw play in the late 70's. I used to watch Palace play (div 3) one week and QPR in the 1st Division on the alternate week. He was quality.

Stan Bowles played against Palace in John McCormick's testimonial on September 3rd 1974 I believe. Result was 1:1 draw with Swindlehurst scoring for Palace.
