Hi all, I understand that the above player was with the club between 1939 and 47. He is a family member who I am keen to know more about. Any tips on where I can find more/ anecdotes from friends/family who followed Palace at this time would be much appreciated.

The photo below is the one used on the Player Database on this site, you will see that someone changed his name on the photo, in line with what other posters have said in the Database thread. If you wish I can send you this image so you have it in your inbox. I regret I know nothing of his career but there are archives locally which can be explored. I know one or two guys who regularly do this. I'll find out how & where they go if you like. I also expect his name may feature in some of the Palace programmes of the day, plus there may be some comments about him in matches - you never know your luck.

He definitely became Naylor. I would very much like a copy of the photo sent to my inbox or to my email if this is at all possible. I would also be grateful if any info you can get regarding where I could look into.the archives. Many thanks for your swift reply. beagle13

I've got a book that has stats for all past players. He joined the club in Jan 1939 and went to Brentford in Feb 1947. He played 18 league games for Palace and scored 8 goals. Only played one FA cup game in which he scored two. With that rate of scoring, I guess he could have become a more famous past player but for the years lost to the war

Thanks for that, bald eagle. I,too, suspect a promising career was hampered by WW2.

I watched him play for Palace in my early years of supporting --Average to good player from memory but better remembered for his change of name.
