I think this big club small club thing is all a myth perpetuated by the likes of clubs like Villa and the Toon who don't actually win anything but feel the need to differentiate themselves from other clubs. Biggness isn't a measurement, it's a relative term and defined by the user and each and every definition can be picked apart and shown to be false. No one can reliably guess how big or small a player (or manager) thinks a club is or how much or even if it matters to the player in question. Someone invented the perfect way to judge one team against another and going by that we are currently the 10th best club in the country. It's a redundant argument to have. Agreed. I think it might have been an issue in our first season but now I think that we can attract players on an even playing field to the above mentioned clubs. The Cabaye signing is proof of this I'd say.

Personally I would take him over collocini. Think he is a better player also a few years younger. Heard southampton were also interested, and they have the Kidman link & are a bigger club but that was a few weeks ago so maybe their interest has gone a little cold. We have cover til he gets fit, Everyone is a bigger club than us in your eyes Brauny. They are not a bigger club than us! They've just got a newer ground and better infrastructure than us. They still lose their best players to the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham. We're a rebuilt Selhurst and a few more years in the Prem away from being a bigger club than them I'd say. Plus we have the London club pull. Something always overlooked in the player pulling stakes. they have a better ground i have no issues stating that whu/stoke/sunderland/newcastle/everton/villa/swansea/southamptonare bigger clubs than us, it doesnt bother me one bit...we can overtake them in time but right now i dont mind us being behind them in the pecking order...i live in a realistic world mate, not a world where i expect us to be getting a europa league place. if we over acheive next season then great, but im still happy with us getting 40 points and staying up. one swallow doesnt make a summer slowly slowly catchy monkey
I remember Portsmouth competing i.e offering silly wages, when they had no infrastructure behind it and look at them now.

Or Pardew for that matter. Or Caulker. The cynic would say he choose QPR for the money, he claims it was to learn off of Ferdinand. Neither though has anything to do with his perceived size or status of the clubs in question. Sized doesn't (always) matter. Back on the subject of Vlaar; I still think we need to be looking at someone 28 or younger. Given his injuries is he much of an upgrade on Hangeland and Delaney?

Vlaar has been broken for the better part of six months and his injuries are chronic by the all accounts; not the sort where you quickly return to normal. In other words, spent force. His best days are almost certainly behind him. 100% not interested (and for the reason above, very few other clubs appear to be interested in him either.)
Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God. |
