This story was covered on my local BBC news.

How stupid is that judge?

The judge said the offences were so serious that custodial sentences were justified, but added: "The only thing that spares you from jail is the need to spare your children any further suffering."

The 2 mothers were/are so self centred they have put their needs to party and fuel their alcohol habits ahead of their children's welfare!

There was no food in the house, no bedding, but loads of empty spirit bottles. They went out all night partying and locked the kids in the flat, not returning till 11am the next day.

Those kids should be put in permanent care or adopted, and the scumbag mothers put in jail for a long time.

Disgusting. Treating their own kids as an inconvenience.

At very least the women should have a suspended sentence, be tagged, curfewed and have weekly visits to ensure children are well, clean and fed.

But of course they will just be allowed to continue and probably in a year or two an even more horrific story will emerge. Social services will then have an investigation and conclude that the event couldn't have been foreseen!

I definitely agree that these kids need visits to ensure they are being looked after. Hopefully this whole thing will be a wake up call for the mothers, but that could be wishful thinking of my part.

What the f*ck do you know about this? Total rubbish. Social Services will do whatever can be done but it's Catch 22. Take the children away completely and they suffer, leave the children with the mothers and they suffer. They have done the right thing by using foster parents. But that is also not a long term solution.

So very easy to have a pop at Social Services isn't it. If you feel so strongly I suggest you foster.

Excuse me for expressing an opinion which obviously differs from your. Mistakenly thought that was what this site was about.

I never mentioned fostering in my thread. Rather that children should stay with mothers - but be closely supervised. As for social service. Recent cases would suggest that child protection is not what it should be. I do appreciate however that expectations can differ.

I guess you have little experience of the effects of putting children into care or trying to get them adopted. Very very sadly, leaving them with their mothers is potentially the best option available. You see this all the time if you work in schools or social services.

The other alternative is fostering but there aren't enough foster carers to go around.

This is why we should sterilise whole swathes of the UK. Apparently, according to another thread, we should start with the Geordies.

Mind you, Sharia law would sort this out. If only they lived in Birmingham.

Im with you on that one.
