If you can find an old fashioned hardware or electrical shop, rather than supermarket of warehouse DIY, you will find that they may still sell exactly what you want.

My lounge light bulb blew this morning. I haven't had to buy a bulb in years, how much are they these days?

You're in for a shock, last time I went you could get 4 for about £1, now you have to fork out anywhere between £3-£5 for just one !!

I remember at school getting an 'energy saving lightbulb', the whole school was given one, which would have been mid-90s. Don't think you can even buy those anymore. The halogen ones seem to be the ones now but LED bulbs are supposed to be even more efficient, deliver a 'better' sort of light but the price needs to come down on those before they go mainstream. Just realised what a sad w***er I am.

I remember getting energy saving bulbs (the compact fluorescent ones)given to you by british gas etc and they were 20p a box for some at sainsburys a few years ago, then they shot up in price.

It's true with regards to LED as come in 1,3,5 watt diodes that produce bright light without high energy consumption.
Also can be used to grow you're vegetables with the right colour spectrum.

Got 2 light fittings in my small hallway. One incandescent and an energy saving half-hour to warm up one so I get the best balance of light and power consumption but that's only because I'd previously relegated the latter to the cupboard and didn't have any others spare when one blew. Can't see fcuk all with them normally.

Got LED ones in my kitchen which aren't bright enough so I put the under-unit tube lights on instead which I doubt are very efficient.

My other bulbs are halogen which you can get in 60 watts from the £1 shop. Efficient, generating less heat so you don't have to worry about fittings melting but pathetically fragile.

Seems like a sh1t deal for the consumer overall. I'll continue to by cheap halogens rather than anything I've actually got to take back for a replacement and how good is this for the environment if they repeatedly end up in the bin?

I'm sure the other ones still quote warm-up times of 30 seconds. I'll be in and out of the room by then. Is that really the best we can do?

So a bulb with 8 LEDs isn't actually consuming less?

Heres a light giving off 700w and it's actual draw power is nearly half.

Replaced halogen in bathroom with LED's they are brilliant (literally) - will replace in kitchen when my existing filament spots blow - which they do regularly.

Mate, I went out this lunch time and almost had a f*cking heart attack! So many styles of bulbs, all claim to be amazing & all ranging between £5 - £12.
