I can confirm the A J Waite foundations and blocks of bricks, together with scaffolding and planking were all there being used to stand on and view the matches that spanned this period of construction.

I remember us playing Cardiff on 1st March 1969 and we beat them 3-0 or 3-1. Roger Hoy was one of the scorers! That day, a lot of the Holmesdale End Boys stood under the AW stand which was in the course of being built. The roof was already on towards the Holmesdale End and the noise we made was deafening compared to the norm, because of course there was no cover on the Holmesdale in those days,so a lot of our noise used to disappear into thin air!
I remember that game as being the start of a fantastic run of form that led to our promotion that season. Happy Days!

No Pete, don't think it was closed during building because i remember going to a game against Charlton( i think) and walked along that side in lots of mud.

The photos on this thread certainly suggest that the terrace remained open whilst the stand was constructed on and around it.

Presumably the Man Utd game in August 1969 saw the stand opened to spectators for the first time, or perhaps for a pre-season friendly?
