which says that the tax is paid by the employer, so it wouldn't affect the individual.

Anyway, Chamakh is a quality player and I'd love to keep him, he's a player that won't be easy to replace.

The highest tax rate in France is 49% and you need to earn more than €500k per year to be in that rate.

And you're missing out the Social Security Contribution of 29%.
