Surely Joel has to be in contension for England call up? Or is he being over looked because he plays for us?

Ask Woy what he thinks of Joel Ward ?

The answer would be Joel Who ?

He'll stick with his big club under achievers even after Glen Johnson officially announced himself Sh!te last night.
TV, Journalists and The FA (Inc the current manager) are obsessed with big clubs & their players no matter how much they under perform.

Just won Young Player of the Year apparently. He'd be deserving of the main award as well to be honest.

As an added aside Phil Jones has been taken off injured in the United match. If many more England defenders get crocked he suddenly might have a chance!

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

Not a chance in hell of being selected for the 'World Cup.Hodgson will rely on those who have already played for England.

Sadly this is true. Perhaps its my red and blue tinted specs but I haven't seen a better RB defensively in the prem this year - last night showed for me all the good and bad about Glen Johnson. Great going forward but got way out of position for our second goal - at the end of the day Bolasie beat him by kicking the ball past him and running very quickly to get it.

The primary job of a full back is to DEFEND, anything going forward is a bonus as far as I am concerned. What will be more important against Italy and Uruguay - our full backs being good going forward or being able to defend?

Against Italy and Uruguay everybody will have to defend and put their nakkers on the line for ninety minutes. There will be absolutely no possibility of England going forward we would get taken apart!.

With Phil jones not looking to good I'd like to see another palace player on their way to Brazil. Ward would be perfect for England.

Willo's got it right again. There is no chance, so close to the World cup, that Woy can select Ward. But he was at Selhurst yesterday and must have seen what we saw. What a useful player JW is, and just how useful he would be to an international squad. Last minute job? like the sweets at the check-out? Come on Willo, soften up. It could happen, couldn't it?

Adrian

Thanks for the compliment but I don't often get it right !
No I cannot see Hodgson selecting Ward.I think it is a bit fanciful to think that someone who has not featured for England would suddenly be selected 'Out of the blue' to travel to the World Cup.

Happened with Theo Walcott, but I cant see Roy taking a gamble like that.

Pretty sure I heard Roy saying literally the other day something along the lines of 'having had two years to prepare for the tournement I'm not going to start picking unknown quantities now.' Also made reference to this two year period in that the form (good or bad) of the last few weeks wasnt likely to impact his final decision.

Personally, I see his point, but don't entirely agree. I think there's a balance to be had in keeping a core squad of the past 24 months, but not being afraid to go with the odd wild card, who's hit form at the right time.

Basically gave license to pick Cleverley and the other abject, confidence-drained s***e at United, instead of looking at youthful players who may only have broken through in 2014.

[damn auto-correct]
