We've had many a trip to Fenway to watch the Blue Jays play the Red Sox. Fenway's a wonderful quirky ground that had echoes of Selhurst for me. From their Boston experience I'm sure FSG will be well aware of the need to maintain a lively atmosphere as they redevelop Anfield.

Just wonder if the Gerrard slip will ultimately be viewed in the same category as the Bill Buckner blunder that saw the Red Sox lose the World Series to the Mets after essentially having it all sewn up.

The "Bucknor Blunder" didn't lose the World Series for the Red Sox in '86 because the score was tied when it happened. It was also Game 6, the Sox could have still won the Series in Game 7 and in fact had a lead until the Mets came back on the battered Sox bullpen. Bucknor is often described as the best player not in the Hall of Fame, a marvelous hitter and solid fielder until his legs gave out from constant injuries. He is now a hero in Boston, a player who gave his all even when he was in constant pain.

Thank you! It bugs the crap out of me how this is remembered - mostly because of how the media portray it. Same as the Bartman incident with Alou for the Cubs. That was in game 6 too, and the pitch immediately afterwards dribbled under the shortstop's glove for an error.

Both teams had plenty of time to play around the incidents. They didn't, which is their own faults.

End of rant.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.
